Xara will join the award-winning Halifax Camerata Singers with artistic director Jeff Joudrey in a family concert of Christmas music on Sunday, Dec. 4, 4 pm at First Baptist Church, Halifax.
Dylan Thomas’s celebrated story, A Child's Christmas in Wales will be woven throughout the performance. The nostalgic and popular story of a snowy Welsh Christmas is told from the view of a child and will be read by John Hancock, a familiar voice from CBC Radio.
The two choirs will present an enchanting selection of seasonal music from Canadian and international composers. Xara will present selections from John Rutter’s Dancing Day, as well as works by Claude Debussy, Samuel Barber, R. Murray Schafer, Finnish composer Heikki Sarmanto, and a Christina Murray arrangement of the traditional Swedish song, Stig in, Lucia, Stig in.
The audience will be invited to join the choirs for a singalong of familiar carols, accompanied by organist Shawn Whynot.
Tickets – $20 regular, $10 student – are available through our Online Ticket Wicket using PayPal or from choir members and at the door.
